The BBC's press release here says both news and sport will go live, fully revamped this week.

Seems like they've just switched on the new news site which looks great!

"The new look will include higher profile promotion of the new embedded video service, extra emphasis around breaking news and live events, wider page designs and more ambitious use of pictures."

Hmmm, Do you think? I'm really disappointed with it. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I think they've really missed an opportunity to take advantage of a cleaner, wider page to lift more content to the top, but they seem to have pushed more futher back? As for the use of pictures, it looks awful (although that pic of Di we've seen a thousand times isn't helping just at this moment). I realise the weight of traffic it must groan under puts some restrictions on what they must be able to do, but if you compare it with the bbc homepage (www.bbc.co.uk) and the massive, well-planned picture that always lights it up, the news page feels really grim.

I just think it's much better spread out like it is. Almost makes me feel like there's more news than there is. Sumptuous I'd call it...

Also the press release does say: "A second stage launching later on in the year will deliver further improvements to design and functionality."

I just think they could have done so much more with their pictures and video content - two things you'd think the bbe would be brilliant at. And audio? where's that? BBc produce tonnes of great audio news and it's not exactly jumping out at you from the new news site. It is better than before, but I still think they need to do more to bring it to life.
