William Eccleshare, chairman and chief executive of BBDO EMEA, is quitting to join Clear Channel Outdoor as head of its international operations outside the USA. The role was created following the buy out of Clear Channel by several private equity outfits. Simon Critchley has joined online publisher network Net Communities as account handler. He joins from Haymarket's Stuff gadget magazine. Future, the specialist publisher behind titles such as Total Film and Edge, has appointed Matt Smith, a former senior business executive at Northcliffe Media, as the new advertising director of gadget title T3. Playboy Enterprises, the men's lifestyle magazine publisher, has appointed media veteran and strategy specialist Scott Flanders as its new chief executive, replacing interim chief Jerome Kern.
Former Bebo chief executive Johanna Shields has left her role as president of AOL's PeopleNetworks division to return to London and pursue entrepreneurial interests. As chief executive of Bebo, Shields secured the $850m sale of the social network to AOL in March 2008.
