Media professionals come 14th in happiness ratings

LONDON - In case you had wondered, people who work in the media are rather happy. They have come 14th in a poll of the UK's happiest workers, rating their happiness at 8.13 out of 10.

Media workers enjoy their careers more than bankers, architects and lawyers, but are sadly, not as happy as social workers, chartered engineers and clergy, according to the Happiness Index compiled by the City & Guilds.

Workers' levels of happiness have increased from last year among most professions with white collar workers, including media professionals, rating their happiness levels as eight compared with 7.6 last year.

Keith Brooker, director of group markets and products at City & Guilds, said: "It is great to see that workers in all careers are happier than they were last year.

"Given the amount of time we spend in the workplace, finding a career that we are happy with -- whether in a white-collar or vocational profession -- should be everyone's priority."

Respondents to the survey were asked to decided to what extent they agree or disagree with the question "do you feel that you have a good work life on balance?" on a scale of one to 10.
