Michael Howard wins General Election ... at least on the internet

LONDON - Michael Howard is the most popular choice for the next prime minister, according to the results from a pre-election poll by OneBigVote.co.uk.

Of 24,852 voters who logged on to the survey, one in five chose Howard over Tony Blair as the country's next leader.

The survey showed that Blair was only the third favourite candidate for Prime Minister, beaten by his own Chancellor, Gordon Brown.

More than a third of voters claimed that they would vote for the Conservative Party in this General Election. Labour and the Liberal Democrats were neck and neck, with Labour attracting 23.77% of the votes and the Liberal Democrats 23.62%.

Of those asked, 91% said they were unlikely to change their minds on the day of the election.

OneBigVote.co.uk launched on Friday April 1 and a survey was emailed to the consumer database owned by marketing company Interactive Prospect Targeting, its developer. The survey is IPT's latest tool for data capture and consumer research, and the company hopes the site will spread virally and increase participant numbers beyond its current database.
