LONDON - Twentieth Century Fox International has created a global 'buddy' website to promote the launch of the Garfield 2 movie.

The site invites users to create cat profiles, where they can enter their cat's age, fur colour, fur pattern, favourite food, drink and hobbies.

Users can also assign their feline's geographical location to the profile and search for cat buddies using the "Worldwide Whisker Web".

Twentieth Century Fox is encouraging users to message buddies and spread the word, via a "Send to a Friend" function on the site and aims to create a worldwide feline fraternity.

John Cosley, director of digital marketing at Twentieth Century Fox, said: "The Worldwide Whisker Web is attuned to the tastes of fun-loving teens and adults alike, capturing the spirit of user-created content and networking to find new buddies online."

The global website has been translated into 10 languages. It was created by UK agency Substance.
