LONDON - Website 192.com has launched a new data service, which uses new spidering technology to extract information from UK business websites.

Through the use of web spider technology, the company will provide the information free through its new 'Web Data' format.

Web Data brings extra content to its existing listings by additional information such as opening hours, mobile numbers and web and email addresses.

It has also added in hundreds of thousands of businesses that were not previously listed across its directories.

Keith Marsden, managing director of 192.com, said: "Search engines like Google have become too vast and are manipulated by big business, losing sight of their original purpose.

"We're providing the UK public with a unique alternative by structuring web search results in a consistent, user-friendly format by actual location. The result is a truly local search engine."

He added that 192.com's spider searches every web page in the UK every three weeks looking for specific data on each page such as opening times, email addresses and who the business owner is.

"We're effectively cataloguing the internet around UK businesses, so that users will find the right business or service every time," said Marsden.
