LONDON – Pulse Group has announced the launch of an online panel of more than 245,000 internet users in India.

The panel has been set up on the back of the growth of online activity in the Indian consumer market as well as increasing use of technology in one of the world's fastest-growing economies.

Bob Chua, Pulse Group chief executive officer, said: "India's middle class alone is larger than the population of the US.

"Based on the numerous online work done in India, the general picture we get is that Indians hold on tight to their traditions, despite being exposed to Western culture for decades and that their consumption habits are not only income specific but location specific."

The panel is being targeted at firms looking to attract ABC1 consumers and will focus on the major urban areas of New Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Chenna, where internet use is highest.

It is estimated that around 45m in India are now "internet savvy", according to Pulse, which has also launched a tracking tool called mPulse, which covers Asia consumerism, including India.
