LONDON - The BBC is to promote its online Spanish-language service BBCMundo.com through an interactive ad campaign for the Latin American and Hispanic markets.

The three-month ad campaign for BBC Mundo, which is currently appearing on MSN, will also feature on the BBCMundo.com website, and across Yahoo!, The New York Times and Hotmail from next month.

The corporation said the campaign, which was devised by digital marketing company Agency Republic, would promote BBCMundo.com as a daily source of up-to-date headlines and news alerts for Spanish speakers.

Julia Zapata, head of the BBC's Spanish American Service, said: "BBCMundo.com already attracts more than 2m unique users a month and around 15m page impressions, but we know from research and personal experience that there is an opportunity to attract new audiences."

The BBC will also unveil an online newsletter for Spanish-speaking audiences from September 25.

Countries targeted in the BBCMundo.com campaign include Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, the US, Uruguay and Venezuela.
