Is media still a man's world?

It was interesting reading the 'Is media still a man's world?' feature in Media Week and the views of the women featured, especially those of Elizabeth Kershaw from NatMags who pointed out the company appointed its first female MD in 1924, which has to be seen as pretty forward thinking for any company in any sector. Do you agree with the points made in the feature? Do you find you're subjected to, or witness sexism within media circles? Have your say.

Yes, it is, previously have have worked for small companies and they are very aware of the "maternity leave time bomb" which is very expensive and not cost effective for them if margins are small.

I now sell advertising on 2 superb games websites including:

In the computer games industry there is probably a 90:10 M:F ratio...

In the context of time at hand, I would say it is a King's key

Ask Claudine Collins, Karen Blackett, Nikki Mendonca, Linda Smith  and any other woman at the top and they'll tell you to stop being so patronising. The ism in media tends to be flagged up by those who can't hack it. It's a brutal business, so if you can't handle it, do something else. Few  will think ill of you - nobody's gonna cure cancer by being in media and  nobody will lie on their death bed and say "I could have scraped a couple of points more off an IPC deal" - unless you're Derrick Southon, I suppose (ask your MD)
