Reporting into the Chief Executive, the Marketing Director will be part of Limelight’s Leadership Team and work with the other Leaders to define and deliver long term strategies that will help to achieve Limelight’s business goals.

The successful candidate will head up a Department that is responsible for recruiting participants, building the brand values of limelight properties, engaging with participants and their supporters as well as increasing the reach of events to the widest possible audience. They will lead a team that is responsible for social media, customer relationship management, direct marketing, content production and PR.

They will be expected to have the following traits and experience:

Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years industry experience either in house for a FMCG Brand or at a leading  experiential agency
  • Ability to work at a strategic level, as well as being hands on with the team
  • Expertise in recruiting new sign-ups for events or new audiences for media channels
  • Track record of building and developing new and / or existing brands
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing and social media
  • Broad understanding of how to assess the effectiveness of different campaigns and channels
  • Proven track record of leading a department or team

Roles & Responsibilities

The Marketing Director will be responsible for working across all Limelight properties and client projects, to lead the marketing team in:

Participant Recruitment

  • Develop the most effective strategies to drive new registrations for events – both returning and new participants using multiple platforms including social media, email, digital advertising, PR and other channels in order to maximize registration numbers for marketing spend


  • Work across multiple channels (e.g. social media, email, video) to increase the levels of engagement between the participants and their supporters with the properties / programs that we manage
  • Develop and implement strategies in content-led marketing
  • Lead the team to lengthen the period of engagement around an event


  • Work across social media, PR and other channels to increase the reach of events from participants to a much broader audience
  • Work with the client’s other agencies, as necessary, to amplify initiatives in sports participation
  • Work in collaboration with other senior leaders to drive successful bespoke client projects and increase profitability for Limelight-owned properties

Brand Development

  • Establish brand values, tone-of-voice and brand positioning for new properties and campaigns
  • Refine brand positioning and communications for existing properties and campaigns
  • Work with teams across Limelight to establish new sports participation communities through content and digital channels
  • The Marketing Director will also be responsible for:


  • Inspiring and leading the team
  • Line manage a number of staff, providing timely and regular feedback and identifying training and development needs
  • Identify appropriate measures to track team and project performance including productivity and profitability
  • Represent Limelight Sports Group in an appropriate way and to embrace the company’s values 


  • Excellent budget control including adherence to pre-agreed forecasts, providing warning in good time of any likely variances (positive or negative)
  • Regular progress and budget reporting to Chief Executive, Leadership Team and Board
