Later this year London & Partners will be launching a new top-level domain “.london” for the capital.  Could you be the Director who can take the strategic lead on the development of Dot London?

London & Partners is the official promotional organisation for London, created to attract and deliver value to business, students and visitors. It is a not-for-profit public private partnership, funded by the Mayor of London and a network of commercial partners.  We have established a subsidiary, Dot London Domains Ltd (DLD), to set up and operate the domain and we are now looking for the right Director to set up and lead DLD.

We need the right person to drive the launch of domain name sales, develop marketing and PR plans, a strategy for identifying further revenue streams and the development and launch of any future products/services. It will involve a highly visible contribution to the digital landscape in London and its leader will become the advocate identified with the project and overseeing the preparations for the launch of the Dot London registry and domain name sales.

As the outward face of Dot London, you will work with London & Partners’ Chairman and CEO to manage DLD’s relationships with the Mayor’s office, the Greater London Authority, London Boroughs and the Department of Media, Culture and Sport, London stakeholders from the business community, and our Commercial advisers (lawyers, PR/ marketing advisers) and teams across London & Partners to identify opportunities and synergies.

You will establish relationships with key London stakeholders to garner support for the domain, develop and implement an integrated communications and marketing strategy to launch and promote the Dot London brand and build the reputation of the domain through early adoption by high profile brands, organisations and individuals. Crucially you will also develop the commercial strategy for Dot London Domains Ltd,  and identify and develop launch related commercial products and services.

As an ideal candidate you will have stong commercial nous and experience, preferably gained in an internet/e-commerce environment. You will be a strong influencer, passionate about communicating great ideas and have confidence and credibility in public forums and with the media. This role will demand successful delivery in a fiercely competitive environment and negotiation and closing win-win partnership deals. You will need to demonstrate that you are a strategic and lateral thinker, with lots of common sense and the ability to remain calm during demanding periods. In addition you will have a strong marketing and PR background, be used to making deals at CEO level and have previous experience in launching new products.

The role is based in central London and the initial appointment will be for 12 to 18 months. The post holder will report to the London & Partners’ CEO, who also sits on the DLD board and manage an in-house team of four people.
