Between now and 2020 all households in Great Britain, and approximately two million small businesses, will receive smart meter technology that will entirely transform the way we all use energy.

Rolling out this technology is the largest programme of national infrastructure modernisation in recent memory which will give customers the ability to gain better control of their energy usage and costs and pave the way to a smarter, more energy efficient future.

The Smart Meter Central Delivery Body is a new, independent organisation responsible for the design and delivery of a major national engagement campaign that will ensure that people understand and are excited by the transformation to come.

Our challenge is to engage the whole of the British population with this new technology and to tell a compelling story about its immediate and long-term benefits against a back drop of immense consumer frustration, suspicion and anger within the energy sector.

The role

Our Marketing Managers are central members of the Marketing Team and of our organisation as a whole. As one of our Marketing Managers, you will report to the Head of Planning and work alongside our Communications (including PR/Public Affairs), Insight, Partnerships and Digital teams.

We’re looking for a passionate and innovative marketeer who is excited by our mission and the opportunity to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime campaign. The candidate will be someone who is able to think strategically and creatively as well as someone able to manage complex projects in a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.

Key tasks/responsibilities

The Marketing Manager will play a central role in the day to day planning, development and management of our seven year, nationwide, multi-channel consumer campaign.

He/she will manage the day to day relationship with key partners and organisations that will be instrumental in the success of our campaign. These include our creative, brand design and media agencies, third party suppliers of branded assets/collateral, the energy companies and other organisations who will be using our assets as part of their own smart meter communications.

The Marketing Manager will support the Head of Planning and Marketing Director in setting the strategic direction of the overall consumer marketing campaign and identify opportunities to develop ever more creative and effective solutions.

Skills and competencies

  1. You will either have:

    • Experience working for a leading communications agency in account management.


    • Experience working as part of an in house consumer marketing team

  2. You will have developed major, multi-channel, consumer facing communications campaigns.

  3. You will have a strong understanding of marketing/behaviour change best practice and the key considerations, inputs and processes required to deliver an effective campaign.

  4. You will be excellent at building and managing senior relationships and confident owning and leading projects.

  5. You will be highly organised and be able to manage projects in order to meet tight deadlines/budgets.

  6. You will have strong IT skills, including the creation and management of excel spreadsheets.

  7. You will have excellent communications skills; the ability to write and present succinctly, eloquently and creatively.
