In 1996, Clipper Ventures not only opened up the possibilities of global ocean racing to all but it also built a unique marketing platform for international businesses and destinations.
The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and the supreme endurance test. A record breaking 40,000 miles, on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht, circumnavigating the globe, with no experience required. Normally the domain of seasoned pros, this extreme feat is taken on by novices, in a completely unique race. Now in each series, more than 680 people from all over the globe reject their everyday lives for adventure on the high seas, for the race of their lives.
The race has an audience in excess of 2.8 billion people in more than 150 countries. Each race showcases brands and builds international trade, tourism and business links between partners and host destinations.
The company also owns the rights to the professional solo round the world VELUX 5 OCEANS, as well as running corporate events division, Clipper Events, and a world-class training programme from a headquarters in Gosport, UK and its training academy in Sydney, Australia.

This is a hands-on leadership role, you will be a motivated self-starter, reporting to the CEO and trusted to:
Build and execute comprehensive promotional strategies to meet sales targets for crew berths and sponsorship leads. You will own lead generation for crew and partnership sales, while assisting the Recruitment Director to convert and optimise enquiries.
Forecast global crew and partnerships sales, analysing trends and evaluating campaign performance to share in management meetings and develop strong sales stories.
Assist partnerships team with co-branded marketing campaigns.
Manage large, multi-faceted media properties, including the new race series website, new events website, editing the bi-annual race souvenir magazine, crew recruitment brochure, monthly e-newsletters, event collateral, and updating partnership presentations. Digital activations will be key for the next series.
Provide content that is inspirational, enriching, insightful, and entertaining that connects the consumer with the brand.
Assist recruitment, crew and partnerships teams with planned email-marketing campaigns.
Be a key contributor to race event plans, from stopovers to tradeshow, to ensure the brand story is consistent and the consumer engaged.
Continuously investigate new technologies, products and services to create enhanced experiences for key stakeholders, crew, sponsors and supporters of the series.
Champion and act as a gatekeeper for all Clipper Ventures’ brands, ensuring positioning, character and messaging are accurate and consistent across all owned, operated and sponsored properties [including, print, digital, uniforms, boats and buildings]. Optimizing brand guidelines when necessary. Critical stakeholder segments include staff, partners and crew.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
6+ years as a marketing leader within a consumer-facing brand.
Solid track record of delivering large, multifaceted campaigns within global environments.
Strong leadership, planning, prioritisation and project management competencies.
Exceptional communication skills, including written, verbal and visual presentations.
Experience of managing large digital campaigns.
A clear strategic thinker, a story teller and innovative marketer able to translate consumer insights.
Agency Management – direct reports of web developers, e-marketing and graphic designers.
Love of adventure is essential. Sailing knowledge is advantageous.
Ability to travel as needed with the race; work flexible hours/days of the week to coincide with international time zones
