The Communications and Marketing Department is at the heart of Lloyd’s, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The team is highly professional, dynamic and committed to achieving its overarching objective:

Promote and protect Lloyd’s brand and reputation globally so that the attractiveness of the Lloyd’s market is maintained and developed.

The Communications and Marketing Department presently comprises Media Relations and Planning, Digital Communications, Marketing Communications, Events & Visits, Strategic and Executive Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility teams.

The Department will be restructured in the autumn, and this position is being advertised as part of that plan.

The Role

The Marketing Communications Senior Manager is the most senior marketing role at Lloyd’s. The post holder sits on the Communications and Marketing Department’s leadership team and reports directly to the Head of Communications and Marketing. The successful candidate will lead the implementation of a new structure for the Marketing team.

Lloyd’s communicates with a diverse international audience. This includes expert underwriters in the Lloyd’s market, the brokers that bring business into the market, risk managers in businesses (i.e. potential policy holders), regulators, capital providers and current and potential employees. The overarching challenge for the post holder is to understand how best to communicate with and influence the decisions they make by each of these audiences so that more profitable business is brought into the Lloyd’s market. Experience of creating and delivering international marketing strategies to support business development objectives is therefore essential.

The post holder will be responsible for the development of Lloyd’s global marketing strategy and the delivery of multi-channel marketing activities to implement it, with the overall objective of supporting the realisation of Vision 2025.

The role includes the guardianship of the Lloyd’s brand. This not only means promoting, protecting and extending its reach and impact. The post holder will also lead on reviewing and developing the brand, how it is perceived and what it stands for.

The role requires proactively building strong relationships with a range of customers within the Corporation of Lloyd’s (both in London and with our global network of representatives) in order to understand their business plans and agree how marketing can best support them. The post holder is also expected to build a network of contacts across the Lloyd’s market.

The post holder will lead a team of people and will directly line manage a number of workstream managers.

What Will You Do?

*Set Lloyd’s marketing strategy, deliver against it, measure and report on progress.

*Oversee the scoping, project management and delivery of targeted marketing campaigns that support Lloyd’s global business development objectives. This includes campaigns for thought leadership, research reports and corporate reports such as annual results.

*Gather insightful evidence about Lloyd’s key audiences – for example, their perceptions of Lloyd’s, their information requirements and which communication channels work best for each audience – and factor this into marketing campaigns to make a more targeted impact.

*Lead the delivery of strategic marketing advice to senior stakeholders across the Corporation of Lloyd’s, including the Chairman, Chief Executive and Executive Team. Back this up by leading the marketing team to deliver the highest levels service to these customers.

*Review and develop the Lloyd’s brand so that it integrally supports the realisation of Lloyd’s Vision 2025. Set and implement a brand protection policy.

*Work with Lloyd’s global network to improve the penetration of the Lloyd’s brand to our audiences in priority markets. With support from our internal communications experts, promote understanding of what the Lloyd’s brand stands for amongst all employees.

*Produce appropriate marketing collateral to sell the benefits of Lloyd’s in priority markets around the world, including print collateral, digital, advertising and sponsorship, supporting and delivering Lloyd’s events and our participation in industry events.

*Oversee the development of Lloyd’s digital channels, in particular the Lloyd’s website, improving its structure, design and navigability.

*Oversee the selection and management of expert marketing agencies and suppliers, ensuring excellent quality, delivery and value for money.

*Responsible for managing the Marketing budget.

*Lead the restructured Marketing team. Ensure clarity of roles, expectations and priorities.

*Get the best from a team of marketing specialists. Set direction for the team, prioritising activities and maintaining high standards.

*Promote a culture of constructive challenge and professional development. Champion inclusion, integrity and fairness.

*As part of the Communications and Marketing Department’s senior team, show leadership and help set overall direction for the Department

What You'll Need

*An expert in all aspects of marketing, with an impeccable track record of delivering international multi-channel marketing campaigns for a major insurance brand.

*Good insurance market knowledge/background

*A strategic thinker, able to see the big picture, identifies links between issues, anticipate emerging opportunities and risks, and take action. Someone who is self-starting and dynamic, who looks for opportunities to take the lead.

*Solid project management experience along with excellent organisational skills to oversee and provide direction for several concurrent workstreams.

*Experience of using evidence and research to influence and inform marketing plans.

*Someone with a creative mind and excellent judgement, who is not afraid of taking calculated risks to make the most of good opportunities.

*Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, able to operate with stakeholders at all levels of seniority, establish trust and quickly build strong networks.  Able to provide senior counsel with confidence and gravitas.

*Experience of managing and getting the best performance from a diverse team of communications experts.

*Experience of being accountable for the management of large budgets.

*Experience managing internal and external client relationships in a business to business environment.

*Strong team leadership and people management experience.

*The successful candidate will demonstrate:

*Excellent organisational and planning skills. Able to work autonomously and under pressure, responding to changing demands and reprioritise accordingly.

*A good political antenna to understand the objectives of different stakeholders, establish their needs and interact with them appropriately to deliver the best outcome for Lloyd’s.

*A good level of financial literacy.

*High standards, with an eye for detail and accuracy.

*Candidates should be prepared to undertake some international travel
