Blackburn took up the post following nine years at brand-agency intermediary AAR.

At Skype, she oversaw global marketing strategy and reported to vice-president and general manager of consumer business Neil Stevens.

Blackburn has left the company to work as a freelance consultant, assisting brands and agencies with pitches.

Last month, Skype appointed Doug Bewsher as chief marketing officer with a brief to oversee global brand and marketing development.

Skype was unavailable for comment.
