Around 640 people gathered at Planit in Embankment for the awards, which were hosted by comedian Adam Buxton, to celebrate the individual crafts people that make ads.

Boyle appeared on stage at the beginning of the event to present MPC colourist Jean-Clement Soret with the British Arrows Craft Fellowship award. Boyle and Soret previously worked together on the 2013 film ‘Trance’. Soret also won gold for Best Colourist for his work on Vodafone Red’s "kiss" spot.

Southern Comfort’s ad, created by Wieden & Kennedy New York, had the most successful evening. It won Best Crafted Commercial and Myrnyx Tyrnyx’s Maya Kvetny won Best Casting for the spot. Tim Godsall picked up silver in the Best Director category for the same ad.

Three other Wieden & Kennedy spots also picked up gongs. Nexus Productions won gold for Best Animation for the Honda "hands" spot, while Factory’s Anthony Moore won silver in the Best Sound Design category for the same spot.

The Lurpak "weave your magic" film won gold for Best Cinematography for John Mathieson, who also worked as a cinematographer on Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’, while Art Jones won silver in the Best Editing category for the same spot.

Wieden & Kennedy’s "the pony" spot for Three Mobile won gold in the Best Use of Recorded Music category for Wave Studios’ Jack Sedgwick, and Best CGI for MPC’s Carsten Keller and Jake Mengers.

James Rouse won Gold in the Best Director category for Marmite "heroes". Another Adam & Eve/DDB spot, John Lewis’ "undersold", won gold for the Natalie Humphries in the Best Costume and Wardrobe category.

Davud Karbassioun, the head of the awards jury and the head of film at BBH, said: "Craft is as integral to producing beautiful, famous and high-performing work, as the idea itself.

"The myriad of skills displayed in this year’s films continues to impress and inspire at the highest level. Entries were up 25 per cent this year, with a total of 531 entries over 22 categories."
