PHD signs Margarito and ups digital focus
LONDON - PHD has become the latest agency to put digital at the heart of its business, with a company-wide restructure and senior appointments including that of Starcom business director Luca Margarito as its third managing partner.
Margarito will join existing managing partners Howard Nead and Lindsay Weedon, each of whom will head a business unit comprising client services, media strategy and online and offline media planning and buying.
Until now, the Omnicom agency was broadly split into three divisions, but now each unit will be fully integrated, with a digital planner on every major account team.
The internal restructure, which will see another senior hire announced shortly, comes after former business directors Daren Rubins and Jonathan Fowles were promoted to managing director and executive planning director respectively in January.
Margarito, who will report directly to Rubins, joins PHD in September.
His business unit will include the Yell, eBay, COI and TV Licensing accounts.
Rubins said: "Luca brings with him fantastic business acumen as well as senior client relationships. We were also impressed with the way he mentors staff and develops those who work under him."
PHD has also promoted media directors Matt Sanders and Sean Meikle to business directors.
Margarito, previously a board director at WPP's MediaCom, joined Starcom in 2004 and went on to set up its retail division, Starcom Retail+, in March 2006, with fellow business director Jamie Pearson.
Meanwhile, MediaVest, part of Starcom MediaVest Group, has hired former PHD media director Jon Kershaw as business director to work on its Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Premier Foods accounts.
Kershaw, who has previously worked at Initiative and ZenithOptimedia, was responsible for the BMW, COI and Fedex accounts while at PHD.
Starcom has also rehired Alastair Bannerman as operations director. His opposite number at MediaVest, Elliot Parkus, has been promoted from business director to operations director. Both will report to group managing director Stewart Easterbrook.
PHD is a subsidiary of Omnicom Media Group, which includes the full-service media networks OMD and Prometheus as well as a number of specialist media communications companies.
