Reed wins big at 2009 AOP Digital Publishing awards
LONDON - Reed Business International was the night's most decorated winner at the AOP Digital Publishing awards last night, taking home three gongs, while the Guardian Media Group and Telegraph Media Group took home two, including best digital publisher in the consumer category.
Reed Business International walked away with three awards, including best business editorial team for Farmer's Weekly, best digital ad sales team for RBI Job Sites and a new award, best digital editorial individual, given to Julian Gairdner, also from Farmer's Weekly.
RBI, last year's winner of best digital business publisher, was knocked off the top this year by TSL Education, which also won the best business website award for TES Connect, a networking tool for the UK teaching community.
Judges called TES Connect "a vibrant and optimistic site which empowers its users. With high quality [user generated content] at its heart.
"TES Connect has harnessed the power of the community in a slick and professional way".
AOP judges named Telegraph Media Group best consumer publisher for the Telegraph.co.uk's "comprehensive transformation of digital activity examining every part of their business".
The publisher also scooped an award for best cross-media project for its tie up with author Alexander McCall Smith, for publishing his latest novel 'Corduroy Mansions' exclusively on the Telegraph.co.uk website, chapter by chapter for 20 weeks.
The best consumer website award was given to Bauer Media for FHM.com and the Financial Times was named as the best mobile website for FT Mobile.
Guardian Media Group managed to snag two awards, one for best editorial team in the consumer category for its blogs section Comment is Free, and best research and insights project for its Brand Aid Panel.
CBS Interactive also won two awards for best launch (BNET) and best use of video (Car Tech on CNET UK).
This year's awards were separated from the flagship Digital Publishing Summit held annually in October and were held in a new venue at Old Billingsgate Market instead of the usual Park Lane Hilton.
Alison Reay, AOP chairman, said: "I'm delighted with the enthusiasm of entrants this year and thrilled that, even in these economic times, we can showcase examples of innovation and highlight publishers who provide consistent high-quality, entertaining content for its audiences."
