Game of the week: Scary Girl
LONDON - You've got to love those affable Aussies and their unsophisticated and slightly old fashioned, no-nonsense approach to life, writes Jim McNiven, Kerb managing director and Revolution blogger.
Scary Girl: an original Aussie creation
When the Local Government in the State of Victoria decided to put together a fund to assist in the creation of digital media they were obviously a bit out of their depth.
Instead of following the UK's lead and spending the money on steering committees, consultants and think tanks before
awarding the remaining crumbs to worthy organisations based upon their ability to stomach endless bureaucracy and form filling, these hapless naifs appear to have simply handed over the cash to talented people and let them build something great.
It's been around for a couple of months, but if you haven't seen it then you are in for a treat. Based on the quirky vinyl toy series 'Scary Girl' is to all intents a platform game created by Jurevicius (the creator of Scary Girl) in conjunction with digital team Touch My Pixel. It's got to be one of the most beautiful and unusual flash games on the web with incredibly high visual production values. If I was being brutally honest I'd have to say that the gameplay isn't breaking any new ground technically but once you fall under the spell of this insanely cute narrative you really don't care.
