The week in Healthcare
Stature PR has been appointed by the Cancer Vaccine Institute (CVI) to handle the research charity's PR and social media following a competitive pitch. The agency will raise awareness of CVI's research into the use of vaccines and immunotherapy for cancer treatments.
Burson-Marsteller has bolstered its healthcare team by hiring Judith Moore from the Department of Health's in-house press team. Moore has been leading media work for both the public health minister and the chief medical officer. She will report to Kate Hawker, who heads up the agency's health division.
The Food Standards Agency is demanding that food businesses conduct authenticity tests on all beef products, looking for the presence of significant levels of horsemeat, and provide the results by today (15 February).
SteamCream, the natural moisturiser brand, has named Pegasus PR as its retained comms agency. Pegasus will aim to shift consumer focus from the brand's recognisable tins to the cream itself, promoting its raw ingredients. The brand's CSR activity involves donating proceeds to the Love for Japan project.
The public sector week
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is on the hunt for comms assistance to help support local business. The council is looking for PR counsel around its enterprise scheme, which is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The deadline has passed for new agencies to bid for the work.
John Fern has taken on the role of comms and marketing manager at Chesterfield Borough Council. Previously, he was head of comms at the Peak District National Park Authority.
Taunton Deane Borough Council has called in A Head for PR following a pitch process. The agency will deal with all media enquiries around the Taunton Means Business scheme, which has been set up to help start-ups, expanding companies or businesses thinking of moving to the region.

College Hill has appointed Tim Linacre as a senior adviser to its capital markets team. Linacre has more than 30 years' experience as an investment banker and stockbroker, including 20 years at Panmure Gordon, where he was chief executive for eight years. He has also worked for Hoare Govett.
Spada has hired Emma Wheeler as a director to help develop its legal and third sector practices. She was most recently an independent consultant working with the clients of Paratus Communications. In her 20-year career, Wheeler has also held senior roles at Coutts and Avis Europe, and spent six years in the corporate and financial division at Burson-Marsteller.
PrePay Solutions, the European market leader in prepaid services, has appointed Rostrum Communications to raise brand awareness and maximise the potential of upcoming product launches. The Prepay Solutions work will be led by Rostrum account director Holly Tyzack.
Zurich Insurance has recruited Alex Jones as a senior media relations manager. Jones previously worked for global asset manager Russell Investments on EMEA comms, and has also worked in media relations for insurance and investment firm Skandia.

Bols has more than 20 years' experience in the healthcare sector, most recently as Merck Serono's vice-president of global government affairs and health policy.
