British Skeleton, the sport's British governing body, has called in Lcor Communications in the lead-up to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The agency was recently set up by ex-British Olympic Association stakeholder relations director Louisa O’Riordan.
Weber Shandwick has been called in by environmental charity and anti-litter brand Keep Britain Tidy to work on a fresh marketing strategy for 2013 and beyond. WS will also develop a high-impact national campaign to highlight the organisation’s wider work.
Portland has launched a social media crisis simulator. The service simulates emerging crises via a number of social media channels, alongside role-play by comms experts. The scenarios are played out on replica digital and social media platforms held on a private network.
The week in global PR
Turner Broadcasting has appointed Allison Gollust as senior vice-president of comms for CNN Worldwide. She will lead teams in New York, Washington, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
Deloitte’s former PR leader Keith Lindenburg has joined Edelman as executive vice-president and technology group head. He will help to expand the agency’s New York practice and global network.
Fleishman-Hillard has appointed Rahul Mehta as senior vice-president and general manager in New Delhi. He will also join F-H’s India management team.
Waggener Edstrom has promoted Antoine Calendrier to China general manager, supporting the expansion of its APAC business. Most recently, he was client services director for APAC and regional corporate practice lead in Hong Kong.
Fleishman-Hillard Canada has hired Jeffrey Ferrier from Ontario Power Authority as associate vice-president. Based in Vancouver, he specialises in strategic planning, public affairs, media relations, issues and employee comms.
The Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms has appointed Cohn & Wolfe managing partner David Gordon as chair.
The week in healthcare
Cohn & Wolfe has appointed Christine Chapman as a senior director within its London healthcare practice. She joins from Weber Shandwick and will take on the responsibility for practice operations and lead the strategic direction of a number of key international accounts.
Lansinoh, the breastfeeding brand, has called in Pegasus PR to drive ongoing consumer engagement through social and traditional media relations. The Worthing-based agency, which won the brief after a three-way pitch, has been asked to raise awareness of the full range of Lansinoh products for new mums.
inVentiv Health has appointed Michel Dubery to lead the European arm of its global comms division, taking on the role of managing director. Dubery, who was previously Europe MD at Grey Healthcare, will oversee the agency’s ad and PR offering.
Mash Health has been acquired by Cello, a marketing services group with operations in more than 70 countries. Mash Health’s current clients include Reckitt Benckiser, GSK and the National Pharmaceutical Society.
The public sector week
Modus Creative has won the contract to deliver Worcester Business Improvement District’s marketing, events and comms plan for the next two years. Worcester’s BID is a geographical area where ratepayers have voted to invest collectively in local improvements, in addition to those delivered by local government.
Greater Manchester Police head of corporate comms Amanda Coleman has been elected chair of the Association of Police Communicators. She will lead the national organisation, which represents police PROs across England and Wales. ‘This is a great opportunity to continue to improve police communication at a time when we face increased pressure and challenges,’ said Coleman.
The week in the city
Aviva, the insurance giant, has hired a financial media relations specialist from Lloyds Banking Group to help with City comms. Sarah Swailes joins as senior manager, financial media relations, working alongside Andrew Reid, head of financial media, and Nigel Prideaux, group comms director. They will manage Aviva’s relationship with City journalists and provide external comms support.
Prosek Partners, an independent UK and US- based corporate comms firm, has been appointed as retained UK PR adviser to AllianceBernstein following a competitive tender. AllianceBernstein?is a global asset management firm with around $430bn (£284bn) in assets under management.
MHP Communications has been drafted in to provide financial comms advice to the Bank of Georgia. MHP’s initial focus will be on developing the bank’s media relationships, principally in the UK. The brief will be led by MD Reg Hoare, supported by a team including director Darren Ennis and account director Jade Neal.
Holt PR has recruited James Bishop as associate director to oversee its roster of financial services clients and help to generate new business. He joins after two-and-a-half years at Redleaf Polhill, where he was an account director.
The week in lobbying
Bellenden has made two hires in its Scotland office. Account director Emma Megaughin will lead the expanded Edinburgh office, with Caroline Henderson providing additional support as account executive. Both bring experience that incorporates time at the Hansard Society, the Scottish Parliament, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as well as working on major Scottish planning and energy developments.
APCO helped the European Azerbaijan Society raise awareness of a concert that took place in London this week to commemorate the 1992 ‘Khojaly Massacre’ during the Armenian-Azerbaijani war.
PB Political Consulting has hired Melissa Barnett as an account executive. She will work on its Ottobock and UK Sepsis Trust accounts, as well as helping to run the secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on vascular diseases.
